The Creative Process Takes Time

The first order of business – In order to have an impressive design, you must have patience!
We understand, you needed your designs yesterday, lol.

The design process begins with your simple direction and the designer’s creative brain will take the lead. By “the lead”, in most cases I mean research. The nitty-gritty, background check if you will ? . I personally like to check out their website, social media handles, and in some cases a few competitors.

a new design starts with a blank slate.

From there we have to ask ourselves a few simple questions, for a design that will work well for the company and their audience:

What is the goal (selling goods, offering services, etc)?

What market/audience are they trying to reach (age, location, etc)?

What colors, how do they want to be visually represented (bold, simple, elegant, modern, pretty, etc)?

I bet you didn’t realize the thought process of a designer.

The list can go on, but these are a few of the basics. Not every designer is the same, depending on the experience their thought process may be completely different. I’ve worked in both marketing and many aspects of graphics design, so this is what work’s for me. Could my process change down the road, it sure can! Evolution and technology are everchanging and so will the process.

When I say technology is changing, I mean it already has in the thirteen years I’ve been designing. Nowadays there are many creative apps to quickly put together a design. If you do a quick search on Pinterest, I’m positive you’ll find topics such as ” How to become a designer without school,” or “How to become a graphic designer in a matter of days.” So why would you pay an experienced designer when you can do it yourself? What sets me apart from those apps?

You would pay for experience and expertise, with the assurance that we will know how to convey your message and your voice to your audience. Most apps are standard to what they offer. Graphic designers are not defined by app parameters, we think outside the box and have the knowledge and software that allows us to do so.

Just to set the record straight, I don’t think anyone who uses the apps is not a talented graphic designer. Props to you for achieving a new skill and creating beautiful content! I can say that I’ve dabbled with a few of the apps, such as Canva and they actually do have a lot to offer. Something that wasn’t available in my early days of design.

Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere

-Albert Einstein

On the contrary graphic designers are not mind-readers

But, with your patience and our imagination together will create a unique, exquisite design.

Any other graphic designers reading this, I’d love to hear your processes. How do you start off with a new client, new design?
